Who needs Internet privacy surfing? I suggest NordVPN for privacy. Some people don’t care who knows what they’re doing, where it’s being done, or how they’re going about it. Others don’t want you to know they even live, let alone surf the Internet.

For people in between, there is this great program, also available as an application for smartphones, called NordVPN.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.

What Is NordVPN Up To?

Would you believe that Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of a truly open internet when he implemented the first successful HTML communication in 1989 was far different than it is today? It was to be a safe space, free from censorship and surveillance.

Too many people came along wanting government intervention and they got it. Too much of it, actually. While not striving to break any laws, the people at NordVPN are doing their best to make the Internet as close to that vision as possible.

A team of mathematicians and technologists work daily to keep the internet as free as possible. They strive to provide absolute safety and privacy online. We make sure no one sees what you do online because they shouldn’t. Nor should we, for that matter.

They don’t even keep logs. If someone asks us about you, NordVPN has nothing to share. They support fighters for human rights, journalists, volunteers in conflict zones, information activists and anyone who believes in the power of the World Wide Web as Mr. Berners-Lee imagined.

What Does NordVPN Say?

We, NordVPN, confirm that we take full control of our infrastructure. We have never willingly disclosed any user data or provided any access to user traffic to any third party. We do not collect user traffic logs and have never been compelled to do so by any third party. We have not disclosed any private keys or any information of our users, and we have not been forced to modify our system to allow access or data leakage to a third party of any kind.

As of November 5th, 2019 we state the following:

  • We have NOT received any National Security letters;
  • We have NOT received any gag orders;
  • We have NOT received any warrants from any government organization.

We are 100% committed to our zero-logs policy – we never log the activities of our users to ensure their ultimate privacy and security.

What NordVPN Offers

Cutting-edge technologies, including military-grade encryption, shield your internet activity from hackers and malware, protect you on public Wi-Fi networks, and even block annoying ads.

Online privacy is just a click away. NordVPN protects your IP address and assures that no one else can see which websites you visit or what you download.

You can secure up to 6 devices with a single NordVPN account – computers, smartphones, routers and more. It supports Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android TV, Linux, Chrome, and Firefox.

Double VPN

All your data is protected with twice the encryption. This makes it doubly hard for hackers. The connections are mixed between UDP and TCP protocols, thus increasing the security level of your online activities.

Since your IP address was changed by the first server, the second doesn’t have any information about you. Nobody, not even your ISP can see where you went on the web. They only know that you are using a VPN service.

Without extra protection your emails, messages, video chats, etc. could be vulnerable to hackers. Therefore, double traffic encryption is not only necessary to protect yourself, but also your resources.

CyberSec

NordVPN CyberSec is a feature that blocks suspicious websites automatically so that no malware or other cyber threats can infect your device. It also takes care of flashy ads, which speeds up your browsing.

The full CyberSec feature is available in the NordVPN apps for Windows, iOS, macOS (OpenVPN only), and Linux. You can enable it in the Settings menu.

Due to Google’s policies, CyberSec does not block ads in the NordVPN app for Android downloaded from the Google Play Store. It does, however, keep protecting you from accessing malicious sites.

The full-featured ad blocker is still available in the .apk version of the Android app that you can download from their website.

CyberSec’s main job is to protect you from phishing scams and other cyber threats. It compares the address of every website you’re about to visit against a massive database of blacklists. If you are ready to land on a website known for using malicious software, you’ll be blocked from it.

  1. This is something that my husband would probably look into as he is more of the “techie” than I am. To me, it sounds great and that is an amazing deal. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I have heard of VPN because my girlfriend uses it in China to go on social media like Facebook. I also used it when I went to China in 2014.

I did not that you had to pay for it since we never paid for it in China. I guess this is the free version. since it is nordvpn not a normal vpn

  3. Hi, Cattington,

The first time I heard about VPN’s was when looking for travel hacks. Supposedly, they say that airlines store your info when you’re looking for flights and that’s why you see different prices every time you check. There are people who say VPN’s prevent them from doing this. I haven’t tried it though, but would definitely like to.

I will be looking into your recommendation. It doesn’t seem that expensive and might be totally worth it.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • Thanks for the comment and the info, Enrique. I had no idea an airline even could do that. It isn’t surprising, though. Best wishes!

  4. Hi Cattington,

I believe in VPNs both as a security and for convenience! I was just visiting my son in Texas, and being Canadian I was missing my news channels.

Using my VPN on my phone allowed me to stream the channels I wanted, lol.

But really, it’s a great idea to use a VPN for security, especially if you’re one of those people who use the free wifi at Starbucks and such.

    Cheers,
    Suzanne

    • Thank you, Suzanne! I didn’t realize a VPN could help watch news channels. lol. Oh, you are right on about using public WiFi! Great idea.

  5. VPN has so many useful applications that you can`t describe enough.

When I was working in a big corporation, everytime I google where am I, it would show a really middle of nowehre mountain in the middle of switzerland, even though I was living and working in the Netherlands, but company used to do that due to security reasons!

Nowadays, and specially in this digital nomad lifestyle, it can be used to get online jobs, or just stream movies and use services in countries that are cheaper and better!

I love VPN, I have only used free and limited versions so far, but at this point I am truly considering paying and installing a proper one in my laptop and NordVPN seems like a good option.

Thanks for the review and I will look deeper into it! Cheers, and read you again soon!

  6. Honestly, I’ve never googled VPN and I really had no idea what it stood for, but I heard it all the time.  I was actually happy to finally see what it was, so thank you.  You did an awesome job pulling me in and making me want to buy this, because all anybody wants is to make sure they’re safe while surfing the web!

  7. This is all I have been looking for, I live in a country where internet is restricted to some specific website, I have been using different VPN but they turn to break down easily and some one has to pay some premium fee, buy having coming across this article I think you just solved my problem, thank you for sharing the attached link on this article as it will helpe access the right and correct Nordvpn, I really appreciate this.

    Thank you.

  8. Hey. I am one of the fans of Nord VPN. Nord VPN is one of the best VPN provider in the whole world. I use the VPN to access websites that does not support my country, I use it for PayPal, I use it to sign up for some services that are also not supported in my country. It is also suitable for privacy protection.

  9. I love Virtual Private Networks as they have helped me achieve what I wouldn’t have been able to achieve naturally.

My first VPN was Windscribe. I used it for some years and I really enjoyed it until recently, it stopped working as it is suppose to work. I decided to switch to NordVPN and the experience really is awesome.

    Good Vibes!

  10. Hi, I will be honest and say that I do not mind if people know what I am searching for, because I do not have that much to hide.

I am OK with that for the greater good, i.e. if the police need to find criminals by collecting data then I am willing to let them see my internet activity for the greater good.

However, I certainly do not want others seeing what I am doing. Who knows who these people could be right?

I like the idea of an app like this that gives you this kind of piece of mind.

    • I understand your sentiment, Jake. I don’t have anything to hide, either. It’s the principle. Police can get a warrant if they need to, but what about hackers? Some people really misuse their gifts. Thank you for the comment.

  11. Wow, I like this. I used to think it wasn’t that big of a deal that big tech and big brother spied on us so much, because I figured I wasn’t doing anything wrong, anyhow. But as time has gone on, it’s gotten far worse than it ever was. It makes no sense to wait until the conspiracy theorists are able to come out and declare that they were right, all along. It’s better to be safe than sorry and if we can’t even search for information online without our privacy being picked apart, that is pretty sad. It seems we have to take our privacy into our own hands and this sounds like a great way to do it. NordVPN is also very affordable, which is definitely a plus to me. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Making us of a VPN have been a thing that is widely used by so many people for various reason and i have always made use of it for privacy purposes and it even really nice in some part of the world indeed. They have been rumors about these VON companies selling outline data in some cases without your knowledge of it, how true is it?

    • Hello Benson! Thank you for stopping by. It is always best to thoroughly research any company before you trust them with your personal information. I have faith in NordVPN. I’m sure there are unscrupulous characters throughout all the so-called safety aspects of the Internet. I hope you never run into any. 🙂

  13. My kids always make us of VPN when browsing and I often wonder what the reason for using it is and now I understand better. Indeed there is a need for privacy today when surfing the internet to avoid so many online scams or hijack from some of these internets fraudster around. I have never made use of a VPN on my one but now it seems so much like a great idea to dive into.

    • Hello, Bella. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment! Your kids are smart, indeed. If you just want to test the waters there are always free options to see if it’s for you. 🙂
